PDF Printing Guide

Each Road Trip Pattern Co. PDF sewing pattern comes with 7 files, one for each size range:

  • Instruction Manual

  • Print at Home format pattern (Letter and A4 compatible)

  • Copy shop pattern (36” copy shop and A0 compatible)

  • Projector format pattern

Printing and Assembly at Home:

We recommend a PDF software such as free Adobe Acrobat Reader. Mac users are able to print directly from Preview at 100% scaling. Our PDF patterns are layered so you can select only the size or sizes you wish to work with, however this function is only available using Adobe Acrobat.

The PDF pattern can be printed on Letter or A4 size paper. When you print, make sure you select “Actual Size” or scale to 100%. Do not select “scale to fit”. Start with page 1 to measure the test square, then print the rest after ensuring the scale is correct. Page 1 includes the layout assembly guide.

Our preferred way to assemble Print at Home pages is to use a paper cutter or scissors to cut off the right and bottom edges, then use a glue stick to overlap and connect the margins. Use tape to secure any loose corners.

The instruction manual also includes a numbered guide of how the Print at Home pages will look when fully assembled. You can select to print or view this layer in the PDF file:

Tracing your pattern is always a good option which helps keeps the original (with other sizes you may want to grade up/down to) intact, that way you can easily mark your pattern variations.

Printing at a Copy Shop:

All PDF patterns come with A0 sized copy shop files (841x1189 mm  or 33.1x46.8 in). The benefit of copy shop files is that they show up printed on large sheets so there is no assembly required. They especially make for nice layouts to trace from, allowing the original large roller paper to be stored easily. Personally, I like to save up patterns and order copy shop files all at once to save on shipping or trips to the store!

Projector Formatting:

Our projector files are created with mirrored pieces, bolder line weights, larger fonts and all pieces in the same direction so there is no need to turn fabric as you go. You will also find grids to calibrate your workspace.
